PROLOGUE

It all started like a dream to me when I bumped into Isaiah with another woman in our favorite restaurant.

I couldn’t hold myself for a while; my brain and mind were running like a scuba diver.

This is too much to take in. At first, that same woman was supposed to be his sister, and now they are kissing in the restaurant.

What kind of guy is he?

You must be wondering what happened. Well, this is just the beginning of the story.

Hi, I’m Marina Roberts, and my parents are divorced. I live with my mom, and my dad… well, I don’t know much about him.

I’m from Chicago, and I’m this chubby girl with a pretty smile, ocean-blue eyes, dark brown skin, and long brown hair.

I’m 21 years old, and this is how the story starts.

I’m still in college, though. I attend the Chicago Music Academy.

I don’t have a friend—crazy, right?

Yeah, I’m an introverted girl, and I don’t socialize with people because they drain my energy.

So it’s just me, myself, and my books.

Until Uliana came into the picture.

CHICAGO MUSIC ACADEMY 🏘️

The bell rang for lessons, and I grabbed my books from my locker and went to class.

“Good morning, everyone. We have a new student in our midst,” Mr. Hans said.

A pretty girl with green eyes and long blonde hair stood up.

“Hi, I’m Uliana Centralia, and I’m new here. Hope to make new friends,” she said.

After class that day, as usual, I went to my comfort zone, the library. I noticed Uliana and Isaiah there, but I sat somewhere else, picked a book, and started reading.

Uliana walked over to me with a smile.

“Hey, can I sit with you?” she asked.

“Yeah, you can,” I said.

We both read until I was tired. I packed my books and went home, but Uliana still followed me.

“Hey, I’m Uliana. And you are?” she asked again.

“Marina,” I replied.

“Can we be best friends?” Uliana asked.

“Sorry, I don’t associate with people,” I said coldly.

“Me too, but I kinda like you. So please?” Uliana pleaded with puppy eyes.

“Okay, best friends,” I said reluctantly.

“Yippee!” Uliana squealed.

I smiled and continued walking.

“So, Rina, where do you stay?” Uliana asked.

“Liana, I don’t like showing people where I stay,” I answered.

“Okay,” Uliana said, and we parted ways to our different homes.

On my way, I bumped into Isaiah, and my heart skipped a beat.

“Hi,” he said.

“Hi,” I replied, already feeling nervous.

SWEET MELODY

After my little chit-chat with Isaiah, I felt like I was on cloud nine.

I reached school and told everything to Uliana, who was happy for me. She even wanted to tell Isaiah that I was crushing on him, but I stopped her.

The director walked in and asked us to come to the studio to practice the song we were going to use for the prom dance.

I was chosen to be among the singers and vocalists, while Uliana was in the dancing group.

STUDIO 🎧🎹🎶🎙️

Isaiah was there, looking at us, and I was getting nervous. I took a deep breath to calm myself.

“So, Ms. Roberts, you’ll take the solo for the song,” Mrs. Smith said.

“But she’s a nervous wreck,” Kendra said, making the whole crowd laugh.

“She’s not. You are!” Uliana defended me.

“Stop, girls. Let her try the solo and see if she can do it or not,” Mrs. Smith said.

I was given the mic, and I started singing:

🎤 “A million things in my head, should I let my heart keep listening…” 🎵🎶

🎙️ “Cause up till now, I can’t tell what’s going on…” 🎶

🎤 “I can’t decide what’s wrong, what’s right, which way should I go…” 🎶

I sang, and everyone was just staring at me.

“That was sweet melody you’ve got,” Mrs. Smith said.

I was beaming with smiles, and my cheeks were all red.

“The chorus will be taken by the rest,” Mrs. Smith said. “Class dismissed.”

We walked outside, and Isaiah approached me.

“Hey, Rina, that was amazing. Wanna grab some coffee with me?” he said.

“Is that a date?” I asked.

“If you say so,” he replied.

“Okay then, see ya,” I said, and we parted ways.

“Hold the phone, bestie!” Uliana said.

I smiled and giggled.

“What?” I asked.

“Did I hear ‘date’?” Uliana said.

“Yup,” I nodded.

“Rina, be careful. Isaiah is not as good as you think he is,” Uliana advised.

“Okay,” I said.

When I got home, my mom introduced me to someone.

“Melo, I want you to meet someone,” Mom said.

“Who is it?” I asked.

A tall, dark man walked out with a cute smile.

“Hello, Marina. I’m Benson Vandas, and I want to take your mom as my wife,” he introduced himself.

“Nice meeting you, but Mr. Ben, make sure you don’t break my mom’s heart. If you do, you’ll find out why they call me ‘psycho’,” I said.

THE HEARTBREAK

Stepdad was the best, and I got fond of him. He made Mom happy.

One day, I received a message from an unknown person. To my surprise, it was a picture of Isaiah and that same lady together, kissing.

I called Uliana and asked her to trace the number, which she did. We tracked it down and met the sender.

At a Chicago restaurant, I confronted the sender.

“Who are you, and why did you send me those pictures?” I asked.

“I’m Andrew, and Havana is my girlfriend,” he said.

“So what?” I asked.

“Isaiah is with her in my house right this minute. Come and see for yourself,” Andrew replied.

I followed him, and behold, Isaiah and Havana were kissing and cuddling. They were shocked to see us.

“Marina,” Isaiah called out, shocked.

“How could you use me as a fool? I loved you with my heart, and this is what I get in return?” I cried.

“I never loved you, so back off. I only wanted to deflower you and get my money back,” Isaiah said.

“So this was all your plan?” I smiled bitterly.

“Yeah, Marina,” he said.

Andrew broke up with Havana, and I broke up with that good-for-nothing Isaiah.

In the end, I ended up with Andrew.
